Massey University - Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa’s prestigious School of Nursing is seeking a

positive, high energy Associate Professor who will lead their team by being present and

working with a clear sense of purpose. This role will bring expertise in primary and community healthcare, mental health, medical and surgical nursing, and strong engagement with the health sector. This role is integral to the leadership and delivery of the pre-registration nursing programmes, especially the Bachelor of Nursing, including the preparation and delivery of professional and clinical practice courses for face-to-face delivery. The position also provides distance teaching and academic support across all School of Nursing programmes.


Wellington hosts the University's largest undergraduate nursing cohort, requiring strong

clinical leadership and effective stakeholder engagement to secure and maintain high-quality clinical placement opportunities within a competitive environment. As a senior academic and clinical leader, the Associate Professor will play a key role in fostering partnerships with healthcare providers, contributing to nursing and health research, and supporting the ongoing development and quality of nursing education and professional practice. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide exceptional leadership in nursing education and research at one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s top nursing schools. The position is an ongoing fulltime position based on our Wellington campus and commences in January 2027.

Visible and Purposeful Leadership: provide positive, energetic and present leadership,

working with a clear sense of purpose and strengthening the School of Nursing team.

Excellence in Nursing Education: lead and contribute to high-quality nursing education across all nursing programmes, including face-to-face and distance teaching.

Clinical and Professional Practice: provide senior clinical leadership across primary and

community healthcare, mental health, and medical and surgical nursing, with responsibility

for professional practice education. Health Sector Engagement and Partnerships: Build and sustain strong relationships with healthcare providers and key stakeholders, strengthening the School’s engagement and profile across the health sector.


Research and Scholarship: provide leadership in nursing and health research, contribute to a strong research culture mentoring junior staff, and lead and contribute to research funding that aligns with the School’s research programme.


This position falls within a salary range of Associate Professor Range $142,607 to $166,584

(NZD) and the amount determined will take into account the candidate’s qualifications and

experience. The employment setting will involve working with people across the lifespan and applicants will be required to comply with the requirements of the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and the Vulnerable Children (Requirements for Safety Checks of Children’s Workers) Regulations 2015.


Ko koe tēnei | About you

  • Registered Nurse with a current annual practicing certificate (APC).
  • A PhD or equivalent in nursing or a related field.
  • Clinical experience and cultural competence in nursing and education contexts.
  • Leadership in curriculum development of nursing programmes that have successful outcomes, including for equity groups.
  • Ability to apply blended teaching approaches including online technologies.
  • Excellent communication in inter-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated engagement to form relationships with nurse leaders, Iwi partners,
  • Pacific providers, and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Te Ao Māori, mātauranga Māori, tikanga and cultural safety and expertise in developing curriculum.
  • Ability to lead and contribute to research projects using a range of methodologies.
  • Ability to supervise doctoral students in mixed methods; an advantage is knowledge of indigenous methodologies.
  • Publications in international journals in nursing or health-related fields.
  • Governance experience in health committees or organisations.
