Job Description

  • The Company Our client is a vertically integrated business with operations spanning a fully integrated supply chain through to exporting out of NZ. Following recent investment and continued growth, they are seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to take ownership of group financial reporting, lead a small finance team, and become a trusted adviser to senior leadership. This business is proud of its down-to-earth culture and long-tenured workforce. Operations span across NZ with some travel required to other parts of NZ but for the most part this role is based at Head Office and reports directly to the Head of Finance. The Role You will take responsibility for the financial accounting and reporting function for Head Office and associated entities while partnering closely with operational and commercial leaders across the business. Success in this role will come from building strong relationships across the business, working collaboratively with operational teams, and bringing practical solutions rather than simply reporting results. The role offers a great blend of financial control, team leadership and commercial involvement. Key responsibilities include: Leading month-end close and financial reporting processes
  • Preparing monthly management reports and Board reporting packs alongside the Head of Finance
  • Cashflow reporting and forecasting
  • Budgeting and forecasting support
  • Overseeing accounting and reporting for a Nelson-based joint venture
  • Leading and developing a finance team of three
  • Partnering with Sales, Marketing and operational teams to provide meaningful insights and analysis
  • Driving process improvement and reporting enhancements across the finance function
  • Your Profile We're looking for someone who enjoys operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. You are likely an experienced Financial Controller, Finance Manager or Senior Finance Manager who combines strong technical capability with a practical commercial mindset. You will bring: Proven experience leading month-end, reporting and financial control activities
  • Experience managing and developing a small finance team
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and working capital
  • The ability to communicate effectively with both finance and operational stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail in what would be described as a high volume environment
  • A proactive, ownership mentality and willingness to roll up your sleeves
  • Strong commercial awareness and curiosity beyond the numbers
  • Experience in FMCG, food production, manufacturing, agriculture, horticulture, export or other operationally focused industries will be highly regarded.
