Senior Contracts Engineer - Hamilton

$120,000 - $150,000


The Opportunity


Are you an experienced Contracts Engineer ready to take the lead on major land development and civil engineering projects?


We're partnering with a respected consultancy in Hamilton seeking a Senior Contracts Engineer to provide leadership across contract administration, design oversight, construction monitoring, and end‑to‑end project delivery.

As a Senior Contracts Engineer, you will lead technical design inputs, oversee construction observation, manage contract administration responsibilities, and ensure projects are delivered to the highest quality, within agreed timeframes, and to budget.

The Role


  • Lead contract administration for civil and land development projects.
  • Assist with cost estimation for civil works and professional services.
  • Manage client relationships and coordinate project communications, including external consultants.
  • Deliver full project management, including oversight and guidance of junior staff.
  • Prepare engineering designs, reports, and technical documentation, liaising with Council to obtain approvals.
  • Develop tender schedules and contract documents, assist with tender evaluations, and support contract awards.
  • Act as Engineer's Representative or Engineer to Contract when required, including managing site meetings, processing claims, issuing contract instructions, and reporting.
  • Oversee 223/224c processes and support asset vesting to Local Authorities.
  • Prepare and present engineering evidence for hearings where required.
  • Support delivery of complex engineering projects under senior guidance.
  • Review calculations and deliverables prepared by junior colleagues.
  • Provide clients with clear guidance on engineering requirements, obligations, and project progress.
  • Maintain proactive communication with contractors, councils, and stakeholders throughout project delivery.


About You


  • Strong technical competency across contract administration, engineering design, and project management.
  • Solid understanding of soil testing and interpretation.
  • Broad knowledge of civil and land development disciplines (3‑waters, geotech, traffic, surveying).
  • Proficiency with engineering design software and related packages.
  • Ability to independently undertake complex design and calculations.
  • Excellent understanding of regulatory standards, codes of practice, and Council requirements.
  • Capable of acting as Engineer to Contract with strong contract management experience.
  • Strong understanding of civil construction methods, machinery, and construction monitoring practices.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure testing, inspection, and asset vesting processes.
  • Competent using MS Office.
  • Strong written communication and report writing skills.
  • Active involvement in a relevant professional body (preferred).
  • Commitment to health & safety and quality assurance frameworks.
