Job Description

Join a friendly team of veterinary volunteers, making a difference to families and their dogs, through Saving Hope Foundation mobile de-sexing caravan. Founded in 2017, Saving Hope Foundation is a registered dog rescue charity committed to providing vital community support and de-sexing in dire need communities across Auckland, to increase dog welfare and public safety through the reduction of litters and roaming dogs.


Vet volunteers are a vital lifeline to this work. Ideally, we’re looking for:


Friendly veterinarians and vet nurse volunteers. For our veterinarian volunteers we require confirmation of an annual practicing certificate, active registration through the Veterinary Council of New Zealand, as well as references. For our vet nurses we prefer diploma-qualified nurses who are registered with the AVPRC.


Experience in a mobile clinic setting is a bonus, but not essential.


Key notes: The focus of this caravan is to provide free or at cost dog de-sexing, to dire need families and their dogs. Anticipated start date is from November/December 2026, but this may change subject to our mobile clinic’s refurbishment times. We are currently taking expressions of interest with dates and times flexible in and around when veterinarians/vet nurses are available. Whether this may be weekly, monthly or bi-monthly.


Additionally, the locations are flexible. The clinic will travel all around Auckland, changing location every month or two. Please let us know which areas of Auckland you’re able to travel to. We will organise different vet teams across different areas of Auckland, subject to vet availability.


All dogs will be pre-booked utilising an internal booking system and Saving Hope will provide all of the consumables, clinic equipment and running gear. The clinic will operate off reliable brand new 12V battery, gas and a 240V generator for power.


Clinic equipment includes:

Brand new anaesthetic machine

Brand new operating table with double din rails

Brand new ceiling mounted operating light (non-heating)

Brand new Knight Benedikt instruments

Brand new Pulse Oximeter and Laryngoscopes.

DAC Professional Class B autoclave

Booking and printing equipment


This opportunity is a fantastic way to broaden your CV and we will provide participation certificates and reference letters on request. It is also a marvellous way for veterinarians and vet nurses on maternity leave to keep their skills honed and may be a sound basis for continuing professional development. Volunteering with Saving Hope Foundation also provides a unique working environment and potential preparation for volunteering in other clinics, including those in the Pacific Islands.
