Job Description

Restaurant Manager — Salt, Whitianga

Location: Salt, Whitianga Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Reports to: General Manager

About Us

Salt is a busy, guest-focused restaurant in the heart of Whitianga, proud to deliver memorable dining experiences to locals and visitors alike. We're looking for a Restaurant Manager who leads with warmth, holds a high standard, and genuinely loves looking after people.

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Restaurant Manager to run the floor day-to-day, lead our front-of-house team, and make sure every guest who walks through our doors has an exceptional experience. This is a hands-on leadership role — you'll be on the floor, coaching your team in real time, and setting the tone for service.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and inspire the front-of-house team to deliver consistently outstanding guest service

Oversee daily restaurant operations, including opening/closing procedures, service flow, and reservations

Recruit, train, roster, and develop a high-performing team

Handle guest feedback and resolve issues promptly, turning every interaction into a positive outcome

Manage stock levels, ordering, and supplier relationships in collaboration with the kitchen team

Monitor labour costs, wastage, and other controllable expenses against budget

Ensure full compliance with health and safety, food safety, and liquor licensing requirements

Work closely with the Head Chef and General Manager to align on standards, specials, and events

Drive a positive, motivated team culture through clear communication and on-the-job coaching

Support with marketing initiatives, promotions, and local events as needed

What We're Looking For

Minimum 2 years' experience in a restaurant or hospitality management role

A genuine passion for exceptional guest service — you set the standard, not just enforce it

Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team

Confident handling high-pressure service periods with a calm, solutions-focused approach

Solid understanding of restaurant operations: rostering, stock control, and cost management

Excellent communication skills, both with guests and staff

Must hold a current NZ Duty Manager's Certificate

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required

Right to work in New Zealand

Accomodation can be provided for the right candidate.

What We Offer

Competitive salary based on experience

A supportive, close-knit team environment

Opportunities for growth within the business

The chance to be part of a well-loved local hospitality destination
