About the role:


Our Hamilton-based client is seeking a highly experienced Solution Architect to lead the design, governance, and delivery of enterprise-scale cloud and integration solutions. This is a hands-on architecture role requiring someone who can operate across both strategic architecture and technical delivery, working closely with developers, vendors, project teams, and senior stakeholders.


You will be responsible for defining target-state architectures, producing solution and integration designs, facilitating architecture governance, and supporting delivery across a range of Azure integration, application modernisation, DevSecOps, and AI-enabled initiatives. This is not a “PowerPoint Architect” position. The successful candidate will be comfortable rolling up their sleeves, reviewing code, unblocking delivery challenges, and establishing engineering standards and best practices. The initial engagement is expected to be six months, with a hybrid working arrangement available for New Zealand-based candidates. This will be a hybrid with 3 days on-site per week in Hamilton.


Key Requirements


  • 10+ years’ experience in Solution Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, or large-scale solution delivery.
  • Expert-level Azure architecture experience, including Azure API Management, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Event Grid, Container Apps, Key Vault, Entra ID, Azure Landing Zones, and Infrastructure as Code (Bicep/Terraform).
  • Strong integration architecture expertise across event-driven, API-first, hybrid integration, messaging, and application modernisation patterns.
  • Proven ability to produce High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and target-state architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects end-to-end within Agile environments and working closely with development teams to remove technical blockers.
  • Hands-on technical background as a Software Developer, Integration Developer, or Platform Engineer, with the ability to review code, CI/CD pipelines, IaC, and technical designs.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure DevOps, DevSecOps practices, Secure SDLC, automated testing, Git workflows, and AI-assisted software delivery, including GitHub Copilot.
  • Experience facilitating architecture workshops, presenting to Architecture Review Boards, and governing architecture standards across multiple projects.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, vendor management, and technical documentation skills.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications highly regarded, particularly Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Developer Associate, or related certifications. TOGAF is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in local government, public sector, ERP programmes, integration modernisation, Azure Integration Services, AI platform architecture, or workflow orchestration platforms such as Camunda or Temporal would be highly beneficial.
