Job Description

Fitter Welder

Tradestaff is looking for an experienced Fitter Welder to join a well-established heavy transport engineering workshop in Christchurch. This role is ideal for someone with solid fabrication skills and hands-on experience repairing and maintaining heavy transport equipment.


Location: Central Christchurch, Christchurch

Start date: Immediate start

Pay rate: $35–$40 per hour + weekly pay


  • What You'll Be DoingFabricate and weld components for heavy transport equipment and trailers
  • Repair, refurbish, and maintain heavy transport trailers
  • Complete chassis, drawbar, skid plate, and body repairs
  • Carry out high-quality MIG welding across structural and general fabrication work
  • Read engineering drawings and repair specifications to complete work accurately
  • Use fabrication machinery and workshop equipment safely and effectively
  • Diagnose repair requirements and complete work to required engineering standards
  • What We're Looking ForMinimum 3 years’ experience in heavy transport engineering, trailer manufacturing, heavy vehicle repairs, or similar
  • Strong MIG welding and fabrication skills
  • Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience operating fabrication machinery and workshop equipment
  • High standard of workmanship with strong attention to detail
  • Reliable, safety-conscious, and capable of working independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
